I study the theme of gaze through photography, moving image, and installation art from an artistic-theoretical point of view.
As a photographer, I am interested in which kinds of gazes and ways of looking are generated by the finished images. These ways of looking are partly the result of the direct or indirect glances exchanged between the photographer and the subject during the work process.
How could the conventions of gaze be dismantled? How could we look differently?
My current work draws from the theoretical framework of feminist image research and reflects on queer gaze. I’m exploring the potential of the queer gaze not only to deconstruct established practices of looking, but also to create new kinds of gazes.

Tutkin valokuvan, liikkuvan kuvan ja installaation keinoin katseen tematiikkaa taiteellis-teoreettisista lähtökohdista.
Olen valokuvaajana kiinnostunut siitä, millaisia katseita ja katsomisen tapoja valmiit kuvat tuottavat. Nämä katsomisen tavat ovat osaltaan seurausta niistä katseista, joita teosprosessin aikana luodaan tai vaihdetaan kuvaajan ja kuvattavan välillä, vastavuoroisesti tai yksisuuntaisesti.
Kuinka katsomisen konventioita voitaisiin purkaa, katsoa toisin?
Tämän hetkinen, queer-katsetta pohtiva taiteellinen työskentelyni ammentaa feministisestä kuvatutkimuksesta ja tutkii queerin katseen potentiaalia paitsi purkaa vakiintuneita katsomisen tapoja, myös tuottaa uudenlaisia katseita.
